Headed to my girlhood home

We are all headed home... my brothers and sisters, all of us.  Our sweet dad is ill and we are all coming together to bless he and mom.  To reminisce, love, laugh and shed a few tears too I'm sure.

Your prayers would be appreciated for us as we travel to our childhood home and for the health of my dad.
Thank you,

Prepared not Scared

Too cute not to share. I really like the candle/jar idea. That would be a great stocking stuffer. The potty in a bucket... a plastic bag liner would be on my list. Gross but necessary. I LOVE the solar heater idea. I will have to try it to see if it really would work. Prepared not Scared is a great motto a little bird

The October Garden

This delightful program was brought to my attention by The Opulent Poppy She has posted April's show but I thought I would go with October as that is the current season and putting the garden to bed is important as well as the storage processes they used. Amazing. Thank you Opulent Poppy for bringing this to my awareness. a little bird

Did you watch the debate last night...

This was a question I asked a gal at work.  Just a conversation opener.

Her response "No, I never watch any of that.  I don't vote.  I never have and never will."   (This woman is in her 50's I'm sure.)

I was stunned to say the least.  "You don't vote?"
"No, I don't care about any of it."

Well I didn't know what to say.  My response to her was, "Well I guess you can't ever complain because you  don't vote."  "Nope, I just don't care."

Wow.  I was raised that you vote, that it is a right and also a duty.  We also raised our boys to vote.  Not who to vote for that is the beauty of this country to have the right to cast your vote however you see fit, but to vote.  People fought and died for that right I just can't imagine not taking advantage of the privilege.

(Yes, I do realize it is her right not to vote.  But it just is not within my understanding.)

There's no place like home.

I have been traveling for work.  Attending an annual conference and seeing all of the wonderful new products available.  And wonderful they are.  We have taken amazing strides with technology.  I won't go into details and bore everyone.

How did we ever live without all the technology we have at our very fingertips...
I guess I'm telling my age but I remember the first color TV on our block.  How far we've come.  I watched a movie on the plane on my smart phone both going and coming to entertain myself during the long flight.  Long flight.  I flew across the U.S. in a few hours.  Again amazing.  We email, blog, text, without thinking twice.  It has become who we are.  We are connected.

A friend and I were talking and the tech topic came up, what would we do if it all went away.  Would we be able to step back into time 100 years.  Our specific conversation was about the power grid.  If our power grid ever went down our world would change beyond our recognition I think.  No freezers, no refrigeration, no smartphones, computers, I don't know about you but I like living on the grid.  I love having a washing machine and dryer.  At work I am so tied to the computer if the power goes out we just go home.  Everything we do is electronically driven...

I guess I'm just rambling.  I'm glad to be home in our little town that is agriculturally based.  Visiting the 'big' city is neat for a few days but there is no place like home.

This is the lovely hotel that the conference was held.
The sky line is stunning the view overlooking the river is beautiful.  Watching the tugs navigating the barges  is both interesting and entertaining. The shopping is wonderful.
But I am not a city girl.
It's fun to visit for a short time but the country life is for me.

Green acres is the place for me.
Farm livin' is the life for me.
Land spreadin' out so far and wide
Keep Manhattan, just give me that countryside.

New York is where I'd rather stay.
I get allergic smelling hay.
I just adore a penthouse view.
Dah-ling I love you but give me Park Avenue.

...The chores.
...The stores.
...Fresh air.
...Times Square

You are my wife.
Good bye, city life.
Green Acres we are there.

Sauerkraut

Today I am getting the sauerkraut processed.  I'm hoping that tomorrow I can get the grapes juiced and canned.  We have had two nights below freezing so the grapes should be sweet and ready.  We picked the last of the tomatoes and peppers Tuesday evening so we wouldn't loose them.

Then DH cleaned the garden all up for the fall.  He likes to till some clippings and humus matter in before winter hits.  He hasn't had time to do that yet but will I'm sure.  He would also like to get one more truck and trailer load of wood for the winter.   It's just nice to have that little bit extra in case you need it.

It's hard to believe that October is here already wasn't it just summer, swimming lessons, and picnics at the park...

Fall is a beautiful time of year my very favorite.  I love the harvest, the colors, the smells, etc...
Wishing you a plentiful harvest,

A Fall Weekend

Old Faithful

Tetons

Tetons

We ran away this weekend to enjoy the beautiful fall in the west.  The trip began at Yellowstone National Park.  Then through the Grand Tetons on our way home.
Beautiful and relaxing.

We are already looking forward to our next trip.
